Fair Housing: Building a Better HouseTopic “C” | 2.0 HoursRequired by ALL licensees after first renewal.
Fair housing is more than a legal requirement—it is a cornerstone of ethical real estate practice. This course provides Maryland real estate professionals with a comprehensive review of federal and state fair housing laws, protected classes, exemptions, enforcement procedures, and the complaint process. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the historical policies and practices that contributed to housing discrimination and how those impacts continue to influence the housing market today.
The course also explores contemporary fair housing challenges, including implicit bias, appraisal bias, tenant screening practices, source-of-income protections, steering, pocket listings, and accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Through discussion of current trends, legal updates, and best practices, attendees will strengthen their ability to provide equitable service, reduce risk, and promote fair and inclusive housing opportunities for all consumers.
