Description

Professionalism as It Relates to the Maryland Code of Ethics
Topic "N" | 1.5 Hours

Required for agents licensed after October 1, 2023 on their first renewal.

Professionalism is more than good business practice—it is the foundation of ethical and lawful real estate service. This course explores the essential elements of professionalism and examines how they are reflected in both the Maryland Code of Ethics and the National Association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their responsibilities to clients, customers, fellow licensees, and the public while learning how ethical conduct protects consumers and strengthens the reputation of the real estate profession.

Topics include professional communication and relationship-building skills, accountability, equitable practices, advertising requirements, disclosure obligations, client representation, market analysis standards, cooperation among licensees, and the handling of offers. The course also reviews the differences between Maryland's legally enforceable regulations and the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, helping licensees navigate both sets of professional standards with confidence.

In addition, attendees will learn about available conflict resolution resources, including ombudsman services, mediation, and the ethics complaint process, providing practical tools for resolving disputes while maintaining professionalism.

By the end of this course, participants will be better equipped to uphold ethical standards, comply with Maryland regulations, serve clients effectively, and contribute positively to the integrity and public trust of the real estate profession.
