Understanding Flood Insurance
Topic “F” | 1.5 Hours
Elective Credit for License Renewal.
Required for CALS Certification
Flooding is one of the most significant risks facing coastal properties, making flood insurance knowledge essential for today’s real estate professionals. This course provides a practical overview of flood insurance, helping REALTORS® understand coverage options, flood zone classifications, insurance pricing, and underwriting considerations that can impact real estate transactions. Participants will learn how to interpret flood zone determinations, understand the role of elevation certificates, and evaluate flood-related risks associated with different property locations.
The course also examines the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), private flood insurance alternatives, coverage comparisons, rating methodologies, and factors that influence premiums. Through real-world examples and discussion, attendees will gain the confidence to better guide clients through flood insurance questions and concerns during the buying and selling process.
As a required course for the Coastal Area Local Specialist Certification, this class equips real estate professionals with critical knowledge needed to serve clients in coastal and flood-prone markets.
